1.4 Inquiry Model Short Survey Assignment (AOL) As a researcher, you are to use the Inquiry Model to research one of the statements below. o Cell phones in class impede the success of students. o Girls in secondary school get better grades than boys. o Most students know what career they wish to pursue after graduation. o Parents give daughters less freedom than they do sons. o Part-time jobs have a negative impact on student grades. o Those in upper grades become more involved in school clubs and activities. The method you will use here will follow the Inquiry Model and you are to document all of your observations and all the steps that you have taken. Step One: Choose the statement to be examined from the list of statements above. This will become your THESIS. Step Two: Your research method will be a SURVEY. Step Three: Information Gathering - Collect your RAW DATA. Create your survey Go over your survey with your teacher for his/her approval. Do this by emailing your survey to your teacher, prior to distributing it. Your survey will include: o 12 questions o At least 2 distractor questions o You will survey 30 students o Submit your survey to your teacher. o To distribute your survey to your peers, may I suggest using an online survey tool such as Survey Monkey. o Ensure you are keeping any notes to include in your report. Step Four: Analyze Data Develop point form notes, etc. based on the data that you have collected. What is the data or information telling you? Step Five: Draw Conclusions What does your data or information lead you to think? Does the data or information support your original thoughts or hypothesis? Step Six: Write-up Produce a (at least) 500-word summary with a proper introduction, a body and a conclusion. Therefore, your write-up should be at least 3 paragraphs. Please make sure this is double spaced. Include your hypothesis, the steps taken to get your finding and your conclusion. Include any problems you encountered along the way. Proof-read your work. This should be done in proper style and with correct spelling and grammar. Step Seven: Graph Complete at least ONE graph to show trends or comparisons you made based on the date you collected. Your graph should be done on the computer. NOTE: This should all be done on the computer using WORD. If you have to create your graph by hand, take a picture and insert it within your document.
