Question:
1.Can the unemployment rate for any nation be zero? Explain with reasons.
2.With about 1.3 million Canadians looking for work, some employers are swamped with job applicants while others can't hire enough workers. The job market has changed. During recession, many middle-skill, middle-wage jobs disappeared. Now with recovery, these people can't find skilled jobs that they seek and must adjust to lower-skilled work with less pay.
Why might unemployment rate official measure underestimate the underutilization of labor resources?
3.In August 2016, 151,000 new jobs were created. But 2.5 million workers over 55 were either unemployed, in part-time jobs but wanting full-time, or had given up seeking work. Although age discrimination in hiring is illegal, researchers have found evidence of age discrimination in hiring, particularly for older women.
a. What type of unemployment might older people be prone to experience?
b. Explain how the unemployment rate of older workers is influenced by the business cycle?
c. why might older workers become discouraged searchers?
