About the same time Lowry, the County Sheriff, got out a number of printed notices describing the man, and offered a reward of $500 for his capture. These were posted at various points on trees and poles. Thomas bought a newspaper and was reading it on the way home in the trolley car, and saw the report of the escape. Looking up from the paper, he saw Slack sitting opposite him. He immediately seized him and rushed him to the County Prison in a taxicab. He met the Sheriff, and turned Slack over to him when the Sheriff identified him. Thomas left the prison and stated to walk home. Dn his way he saw one of the Sheriff's notices on a tree.
