I was talking with some friends the other day about world events and the conversation shifted, as it often does, to betas and standard deviations in different industries. Inparticular, we started talking about the Computers/Peripherals industry, the Household Products industry, and the Transportation (Railroads) industry.

Examples of firms in the Computers/Peripherals industry are Apple, Dell, HP, NCR, Western Digital, and Xerox. Examples of firms in the Household Products industry are Clorox, Colgate- Palmolive, Kimberly-Clark, Newell Brands, Proctor & Gamble, and Revlon. Examples of firms in in the Transportation (Railroads) industry are CSX Corporation, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern Corporation, and Union Pacific Corporation.
