2. Amandeep, a computer software specialist, currently owns his own business (Amandeep- IT Inc.). However, he used to work at FuTech (in Calgary, Alberta) for a number of years as a computer support specialist. Since he has his own business, Amandeep believed that working as a contractor would give him more flexibility and offer other advantages. Thus, Amandeep reached out to his former employer (FuTech), and they agreed to hire Amandeep on contract through his company. Although Amandeep took on small assignments for a few other clients, nearly 90 percent of his time is spent on the contract work for FuTech. FuTech also allowed Amandeep to keep his old office, as well as his old direct phone line and Internet connection at their main office. FuTech believes that it is in their benefit to hire Amandeep as a contractor, instead of an employee, as they will not have to pay contributions (El and CPP), or keep track of taxes, deductions and other contributions. Before this continues any further, Amandeep and FuTech want to clarify their working relationship. Can Amandeep be a self-employed person for the Computer Support Specialist role at FuTech or is he an employee?
