He told the police that he lured men from bars and shopping malls by promising them money to pose for pictures. He would then take them to his apartment, drug them, strangle them, and dismember their bodies. He boiled the heads of some of his victims to remove the flesh and had sex with the cadaver of at least one of them. Police found rotting body parts lying around his apartment, along with bottles of acid and chemical preservatives. Photographs of mutilated men were on 2 freezer that contained two severed heads. Another severed head was in the refrigerator. Dahmer told the police that he had saved a heart to eat later. Dahmer's stepmother told the press that as a child, he liked to use acid to scrape the meat of dead animals. When he was 18, his parents divorced. He lived with his mother until, one day, she took his little brother and disappeared, leaving him alone. He went to live with his grandmother, where he started to abuse alcohol. During the six years he lived with his grandmother, mysterious things were occurring in the basement and garage. Dahmer's father, a chemist, discovered bones and other body parts in containers. Dahmer told his father that he had been stripping the flesh from animals he found. In 1988, Dahmer spent ten months in prison for fondling a 13- year-old Laotian boy. On his release from prison, he was placed on probation, but his probation officer never visited him. Dahmer's defense attorney claimed that his client was insane at the time of the murders. The jury rejected the insanity defense
