In the 9th Circuit case of

Marder v. Lopez,450 F.3d 445,(2006) , The movie Flashdance told the story of a female construction worker who performs at night as an exotic dancer. Paramount Pictures and Marder signed a contract in which Paramount paid Marder $2,300 for her life story. Marder signed a contract with the massive Hollywood Company that released Paramount from any further claims by Marder whose life story the film loosely portrayed. . The movie was made and following its release, made more than $150 million in box office receipts and is still making additional revenue from Broadcasts and rentals and Amazon, Netflix etc. Marder sued Paramount, alleging that she should be paid more money because the of the undeniable phenomenal commercial success of the film.
