3. A manufacturing company produces products 1,2 , and 3 . The three products have the following resource requirements and produce the following profit: At present, the firm has 400 hours of normal-time labor available per day, and a daily supply of 500 pounds of material. A linear programming formulation for maximizing profit can be set up as follows: maximizesubjectto3x1+5x2+2x35x1+2x2+4x34004x1+6x2+3x3500x1,x2,x30 Management has developed the following set of goals, arranged in order their importance to the firm: (1) In light of recent labor relations difficulties, they would like to fully utilize their 400 hours of available normal-time labor. (2) They'd like to see profits of at least $600 per day. (3) Since paying workers overtime is quite costly, they'd like to limit the number of overtime hours worked as much as possible. (4) To avoid incurring same-day shipping and rush delivery costs, they would prefer that their production plan use no more than the 500 pounds of material they have on hand. The linear program given above is too rigid to model these goals; it doesn't allow for overtime labor or additional pounds of material. Convert it to a goal programming model that can be used to determine the production levels for each product that best satisfy the goals. 4. Set up and solve the model from Problem 3 in Excel. Which goals were fully met, and which were missed? For the ones that were missed, by how much (over or under) did we miss them
