3. All Canadian residents & citizens, refugees and immigrants are protected from discrimination by individuals, corporations, government and members of the justice community. 2. 3. .4. 5........ ..6. 7. .8....... g........ . 10 The Canadian government and justice system have been seen as "freedom fighters." In Canada, there has been no proof of discrimination based on citizenship from our government or justice system. Back in 2016, the Canadian government accepted over 46700 refugees from Syria. Since then, the government has received backlash and accusations that they have only been supportive in order to avoid negative appearances or bad publicity. As for individuals and corporations, discrimination prevention is managed under the Canadian Human Rights Act. This legislation is extended to law to ensure equality and equal opportunities for every individual. Although the intended purpose is equality, that isn't always the case. In 2019, there was a major case of discrimination against Inuit people in northem Quebec. These Inuit people were being discriminated against in healthcare facilities. The lawyers who represented this case were known for representing northern Indigenous people. They prepared a lawsuit on behalf of any Inuit people who had been discriminated against in Canada's healthcare system. In addition to the Indigenous discrimination in Canada, it is also known that 1 in 5 immigrants deal with discrimination on an almost everyday basis. Majority of this discrimination happens while at work, while applying for a job, and most of it is based on their ethnicity and culture. Although there is not as much discrimination coming from the government and justice system, Canada has very little boundaries and punishment for discrimination, which is why my final ranking is a 2/10
