During the early part of the 19th century Charles Didelot trained ballet dancers in Russia and \"brought ballet technique in Russia up to the standards of the rest of Europe." (Jonas 159). 33). Throughout the later half of the 18005 Marius Petipa was the Russian ballet master for the St. Petersburg ballet, which was housed in the Maryinsky Theater. 34). Petipa's creation of "Sleeping Beauty in 1890," which we still see today, "is considered the high point of classical ballet.\" (Jonas 159) 35). Due to Petipa's influence during the Classical period, ballet technique became more demanding with leaps, jumps, pointe work, turns and leg beats. 36). The tea length flowing skirts from the Romantic period is now replaced by the shortened \"tutu,\" which allows the audience to more easily see the increasingly demanding technique. 37).
