Requirements The final paper can be on any topic of your choice, relating to American film history. Some examples could be an exploration of a time period, studio, filmmaker (auteur studies), actor (star studies), genre, technology, marketing, theme, representation, or anything else that piques your interest in terms of the evolution of film as a business and/or a mode of mass communication and entertainment. You can write on technical aspects of filmmaking such as directing, producing, editing, and writing of films. Please follow these instructions for the paper: Five to seven pages . Clearly written thesis - approved by the instructor. Try to NARROW DOWN your topic as much as possible, so that it can be covered in-depth in the paper. Don't choose topics like "The History of Animation" or "Special Effects from the Beginning to Today" or anything requiring a book-length work to cover. Choose something very SPECIFIC, like "Hitchcock's Film Psycho as a Turning-Point in the Horror Genre" or "The Public Reception of The Wizard or Oz" or "How Unforgiven was a Turning-Point Film in Clint Eastwood's Career". . At least 5 credible academic sources - books (preferably!), journals, and webpages (only if they are from credible sources, of course). Go BEYOND basic sources like Wikipedia, which can sometimes point to other sources in its reference lists. . Follow MLA or APA - whichever you are familiar with .
