THE EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT The second part of the audit should examine the external environment in terms of legal, ethical, and global challenges, as far as these are related to the natural environment, societal environment and task environment within the company's area of operation. As an academic story, your text should include references from published works which will be presented in the form of summaries and quotations. You do so by moving from the general argument to the particular; that is by creating a broad map of the field itself, and then by locating your case on this map. Because there might be thousands of addresses listed as 21 Main Street, you need to map it by moving from general to particular.
