"Developers, we need more developers to handle the data integration from the loT medical devices, integrate with Tampa General Hospital's systems, develop the online dashboards for users, build out our back-end systems, and help code the machine learning side," Emily says reluctantly to Jasmine. "How many developers are you talking about?" Jasmine asks. Emily clears her throat, "Well, quite a few. It turns out that loT medical devices are so new that there's no industry-wide standardization. We're probably going to need a different interface for each device. Each manufacturer has its own software development kit and wants you O to develop for its platform. Developing apps for smartwatches is fairly straightforward. But interfaces for devices like oximeters, blood pressure monitors, glucose monitors, and smart scales will be more difficult to develop. It will be harder to find people who know how to + develop apps for those types of devices." Jasmine shifts in her chair and leans forward. "How would that work?" OPEN Emily motions to her smartphone. "Essentially we'd make the iMed mobile app capable of connecting via Bluetooth to each loT medical device. The medical device sends data to our iMed app and then back to us for analysis. From there we can share it with hospitals or doctors or make it available through the online patient dashboard. But, again, we'll need additional developers for our back-end system and web interface and to help Jose with the machine learning development piece." "Wow, OK, how much is this going to cost?" Jasmine asks, surprised. "Not as much as you might think," Jose interjects. "I have several friends from grad school who can help with the machine learning side. We could outsource some of the heavy lifting to them. They'll like the extra income." "Speaking of outsourcing," Emily says cautiously, "when I was working in the hospitality industry, we would outsource our application development to India. We saved a ton of money.
