It is desired to recover 99% of water from this mixture for water pinch purposes. The recovery and purification of water are feasible by distilling the mixture using a fractionation column as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1: Propose fractionation column of DME-methanol-water separation Students in group of maximum four (4) members are required to (i) design feasible sizing of fractionation column that suit the addressed scenario and (ii) evaluate the process using the principal concepts of distillation. The following are the specific tasks to be carried out for mini project: a) Task 1: WP1, WP3, WK3, WK5, WK8 (30 marks) Assess feasible separation of desired component from multi-components mixture of feed stream. Justify the selection based on the principles of distillations. Determine the top and bottom temperature of column as well as flowrate and components of distillate and bottoms. b) Task 2: WP1, WP3, WK3, WK5, WK8 (40 marks) Based on justification in (a), design feasible sizing of fractionation column that suit the addressed scenario using the principles of distillation. Design elements must cover the number of theoretical stages, location of feed tray and height of column. c) Task 3: WP1, WP2, WP3, WK3, WK5, WK8 (30 marks) In some instances, the cooling capacity of the cooler drops significantly due to some technical problems, which causes the outlet stream from the cooler to rise by 40C. Based on this upset scenario, evaluate the impact of such issues to the separation of components in the subsequent fractionation column. Compare and conclude your findings
