5.12 Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is formed by first burning sulfur in air to produce sulfur dioxide (SO2). Sulfur dioxide is then catalytically reacted with more air to form sulfur trioxide. Finally, the sulfur trioxide is combined with water to form sulfuric acid. The flow diagram for this process is shown in Problem Figure 5.12.1. The components in each stream are as shown in the flow diagram. The stream of produced concentrated sulfuric acid is 98% sulfuric acid and 2wt% water. This process is to produce 200,000kg /day of the concentrated acid. How much sulfur in kg/ day must enter the process in order to meet this production demand? Use the component balance approach.
