7-1 Discussion: Emotional Intelligence in Project Management Describe a project that you worked on, either personally or professionally, that was hampered by communication difficulties and interpersonal challenges. Based on what you have learned about emotionai intelligence and cultural and generational awareness, what recommendations would you make to improve interpersonal and team dynamics? Explain the rationale behind your recommendations. In the last discussion, | addressed having an issue with a coworker. For this discussion I will discuss about having an issue personally while working on a project. We were remodeling my childhood home; my grandmother was living there. To get the house organized to start the remodel we had to box up a lot of stuff. While I was looking over it, there were items that I felt were useless to keep. My grandmother grew up in a time of depression and held everything. She also got very upset when I asked to get rid of something. I had to put myself in her situation so that I didn't upset her more. I talked to her about what feelings she was going through. As we moved forward on the project, I was sure to communicate with her so that it didn't become overwhelming. That helped us finish the project and have less struggles and delays. Responses: John, Your post will ring true a lot because families carry a lot of emotion when they are fully invested in a project. | used a family example also but more of a generational difference. It can be difcult to know when you need to step in and when you need to let them work through their feelings. Great post.I Alyson, Having to create and manage teams that over see each other is difficult. I can see how the first team would feel they were being attacked by the other if they were given critical feedback about their work. In every work situation there is a team that is over checking what someone else did. I think the part that makes this a struggle is when the team is working directly with them and it doesn't get passed them until they rereview it
