To explore the role of child care providers' attachment styles in relation to their attitudes and behaviors regarding infants and young children,we drew on existing research on parents' attachmentstyle in relation to their attitudes andcaregivingbehaviors.Adult attachment has been conceptualized as a caregiving behavioral system regulated by "internal working models" of self, others, and relationships that organize thoughts and feelings about relationships (Ainsworth, M. 1973; Bowlby, J. 1969; Main, Goldwyn, & Hesse, 2012; Sroufe, John & Waters, Ed 2013) in four main styles:1) secure or "autonomous," 2) insecure-entangled or "preoccupied," 3) insecure-avoidant or "dismissing," and (4) disoriented-disorganizes or "fearful." These internal working models guideadults' beliefs about relationships, in particular theirperceptions and appraisals of children's behavior as well as their own emotional and behavioral responses to children's behavior (Bretherton, 2010; Crowell, and Feldman, 2017; Cook, Cook, and Jones, 2015).
