A 2-year-old child in Pennsylvania had pneumonia and died. Upon autopsy, it was determined the child likely would have had a 95% chance of survival had she been given a simple course of an antibiotic, as simple as penicillin. However, her parents' religious beliefs prevented them from seeking medical attention. The parents were charged with manslaughter and child endangerment for not taking their daughter to the doctor. Are they guilty of the charges? Are they guilty of worse-murder? Are they not guilty because of their religious beliefs.
