Question:
A block of mass m slides along a frictionless table at initial speed v0, as shown at right. It then starts sliding along a surface with which it has coefficient of kinetic friction k . After moving a distance d0, it runs into a spring of force constant k, while friction with the surface continues. Find the total distance d the block moves while in contact with the frictional surface, by the time it has compressed the spring and instantaneously come to rest.
