As a result, an INS must now have an overall reliability of at least 0.98303. Assuming there is no possibility of any redundancy in the system. a) Determine the current reliability of a single INS? b) What would you do to redesign the INS to meet the required Boeing specification? Briefly discuss and justify your approach including which component you would first improve and why. c) Based on your approach, recalculate the reliability of the INS. Briefly comment on the implications of the result of your calculation d) Assume now that as a result of your determination in the preceding question c), you have concluded that you have no choice and must now incorporate a back-up INS into the system. Assuming the original component reliabilities, calculate the new reliability of the new navigation system. e) The First Officer also has an INS which is identical to, but separate from, the Captain's. Based on your calculated reliability of the system in the preceding question d), determine the reliability that the flight crew will be able to determine the aircraft's position f) In reality, the actual aircraft has three independent INS systems.
