a) Briefly explain the practical advantages of using a Rankine power cycle over the Carnot power cycle
b) A Rankine power generation cycle is using water as working fluid. Saturated liquid water leaves the condenser at 100 C, and the boiler operates at a pressure of 2.5 MPa with steam exiting the boiler at 700 C. The turbine and the pump operate adiabatically and reversibly. For the above system
i) Calculate the heat transfer in the boiler and the condenser, and the work done by the pump and the turbine.
ii) Calculate the efficiency of the cycle.
c) Would it be possible to operate the Rankine cycle if steam were to leave the boiler
at 400 C? Explain your reasoning.
