A company produces two products P1, and P2 at the rate of 8600 , and 7400 units a month. Three components Cl, C2, and C3 are used in making a unit of each of the products. The component requirements for each unit of the product are given in Table 1. The details of the time required (in minutes) to make a unit of each of these components on two machines M1 and M2 are given in Table 2 . The machines will be available for 22 days, 8 hours a day, in a month to do production work. Machines of type Ml can be used to produce any of the three components whereas machines of type M2 can be used to produce only C3 items. Currently, there are 8 machines of only type M2 available in the workshop. If the company decides to buy machines of only type MI, how many of them should it buy? (Hint: First, calculate the required rate of production for each of the components. Determine the maximum number of C3 items that can be produced on the 8 machines of type M2. Then calculate the number of hours and machines of type M1 needed to produce the remaining number of C3 items, if any, and all of Cl as well as C2 items.) Table 1 Table 2 time in mimtes per ueit What is the number of C1 items needed per month
