A consultant has been hired by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Catsup Division to evaluate a manufacturer's advertisement claims. The OrgoFoods company has developed a new pesticide-free catsup that they claim is " 20% slower" than the leading competitor's brand. When pressed for details, the OrgoFoods scientists say that this claim means that the yield stress of their product is 20% higher than that of the competitor's product. In order evaluate OrgoFood's claim, FDA scientists measured the yield stress of the two brands of catsup using a 'Bostwich viscometer', which consists of flow down an inclined plane, shown in the Figure below.
