A customer enters a store. They choose an item that they wish to buy. The customer proceeds to the cashier and presents the item to be purchased. The cashier uses a bar code scanner to scan the item tag into the cash register. The cash register not only records the purchase, but (upon closing the sale) retrieves specific production information and automatically adjusts store inventory. At the end of the process, the cash register prints a receipt to be provided to the customer.
