A family of six consisting of a middle-aged mother and five children ages 6, 8, 13, 17, and 23, seeks your help. The father of the family was killed in an accident. His wife and children consider themselves a close family, but they never talk about the accident or their feelings about it. The mother isolates herself from friends and extended family, and some of the older children begin drinking too much and engaging in risky behaviors.

Discussion Instructions

Choose the 17 year old child. Assign her a culture of your choice and whether or not this family has any religious tradition from which you may draw. Based on what you read of the stages of development, apply the ABC model of intervention to your plan for providing assistance to the child you have selected. In your initial posting, present the following:

1. The religious tradition, if any, of the family.
2. The developmental stage of the selected child.
3. The ABC plan to provide crisis intervention for that child.
