A group of 24 co-workers are arguing about which is the fastest way to get to work in Phoenix: light rail, driving on the highways, or driving on surface streets. To settle the argument they split into three groups of 8 with each group using one of the modes of transportation. They then start from points equidistant from the office and record their average commuting time for a week. Below are the reported average commute times for each participant (in minutes). Light Rail 34.00 33.00 36.00 32.0 31.00 29.00 35.00 30.00 Highways 44.00 47.00 49.00 58.00 40.00 54.00 52.00 46.00 Surface Roads 59.00 63.00 65.00 53.00 71.00 73.00 66.00 Answer the following questions about this data set (making sure to include the outputs from all statistical tests you run). a) What are the independent and dependent variables in this study? b) State the null and alternative hypotheses c) Test whether the assumptions of ANOVA are met for this data set. d) Run the appropriate statistical test to determine whether or not the null hypothesis should be accepted e) If significance is found run appropriate post-hoc tests to break down the effect. f) Write a results section for this study in a format appropriate for a journal article. Be sure to include a figure of the results. g) Can you think of any possible confounds that may make it difficult to interpret the results of this study?
