A group of researchers wants to investigate the effect of a new drug on blood pressure. Specifically, the researchers were interested in whether the treatment makes any difference in a patient's blood pressure. Patients with similar starting levels of high blood pressure were randomly assigned into two groups, the placebo group and the treatment group. The placebo group received conventional treatment while the treatment group received the new drug. After treatment for a couple of months, the researchers compared the average blood pressure of the two groups. Note that each patient is measured once and belongs to one group.
