A high-purity carbon dioxide product stream at P1 = 370 kPa and T1 = 77 °C from a gas absorption separation system is to be compressed to P2 = 13.3 MPa and T2 = 62 °C for pipeline transport and geological storage. Assuming that the physical properties of the product gas stream are those for pure CO2, and using the compressibility chart provided below, calculate the following for an adiabatic single-stage compression:

 

(a). The gas compressibilities Z1 and Z2 at the compressor inlet and outlet.

(b). The power requirement in kJ per mole of CO2 compressed to the pipeline specifications, assuming a compressor efficiency of 87%.
