1. A Hmong family has a baby diagnosed with epilepsy.The parents are refugees and newly arrived in the US. They believe their child's illness is a sign that the child will grow up to be a healer. The parents do not speak English, do not understand the biomedical explanation of their child's illness, they are not following through sufficiently on proper doses and timing of their child's medication, and they do not like what they perceive to be the side-effects. The health care team thinks the child's health is suffering because the parents are not doing what they should do, and want to put the child in foster care.
