A key element of the course is the team field project in which students in teams are expected to analyze a real-life organizational case to explore how organizations deal with employees who are assessed as low performers on any evaluation criteria, ranging from task performance, citizenship behavior, lateness, absence etc. The scope of the interview should go beyond an individual case to examine how the organization attempts to maintain desired level of performance in general. The teams will establish contact with an organization and conduct interviews with a member of management team and a subordinate of the same manager. The interview should uncover what steps the manager is taking or not taking to enhance performance in terms of motivators of performance (e.g., job enrichment, flexible working hours, job crafting, rewards, feedback, goal setting etc.) considering subordinate attitudes (e.g., job satisfaction, organizational commitment) and personality (e.g., resistant, introvert etc.), leadership style of manager (e.g., individually considerate, inspiring etc.) and group dynamics (e.g., organizational/team cohesion and norms). The interviews should provide a clear picture whether leaders and followers are on the same page in terms of their perceptions of the organizational practices.
