A liquid must be pumped out of an enclosed reactor that operates at a pressure of 120kPa. The liquid exits the bottom of the reactor through a 3 inch, sched. 40 pipe that has a 90 elbow and a physical length of 5m before entering a pump. The liquid level in the reactor is 4m above the pump. The liquid exits the pump through a 4 -inch sched. 40 pipe that is 20m in physical length and has two 90 elbows on its way up to a holding tank. There is a gate valve that is half open near the entrance of the tank. The holding tank is at a pressure of 180kPa and an elevation 7m above the pump. The liquid has a density of 900kg/m3, viscosity of 6.7104kg/m.s and must flow at a rate of 2.6kg/s. Commercial steel is used for all pipes. What is the pressure at the inlet of the pump? (12 marks) Assuming an 80% efficiency, what is the power requirement of the pump in J/s?(10 marks)
