A local clinic administers H1-N1 flu shots to the high risk population in the Point Grey area. The clinic is opens 24 hours with no breaks during the day. We are interested in examining the process of immunization and patient flow during a typical 2 hour period on a particular day. Assume that there is a long line (over a 1000 people) waiting for services. Getting a flu shot involves the following steps in the prescribed order: Step 1:Check Identification. This takes 1 minute on average exponential distribution. Step 2:Interview patient for possible allergies, health issues etc. This takes1 minute and 30 seconds (i.e. 1.5 minutes)exactly. Step 3: getting the actual shot (includes possible sterilization of the patients arm, needle etc.). This step takes 3 minutes on average exponential distribution.Step 4:Patient rests and a quick post-shot interview takes place. This takes30 seconds exactly. Assume that there is a total of 4 staff members with one staff member assigned to each step. The staff members are unionized and not flexible (i.e. they will only do the one step for which they have been hired). Also, each step can only deal with at most 1 patient at a time. Ina typical two hour period, how many patients can this clinic serve?
