A local restaurant has received an unsolicited offer to sell their location - not their business. A developer has purchased the surrounding property to build a hotel. But we are consultants that have been hired by the Restaurant to suggest if we should or should not sell based on economic / market issues - not family issues. Thus, the overall question that we have to 'solve' - is should we sell? (please suggest an answer) But the additional questions within the case are as follows: (Page 3 & 4) Questions for the Assignment: Tasks: (answer the questions) Determine - What is the Problem? Similar types of questions start with the same process: (politicians always ask what did you know, and when did you know it) What do we know? (list of what we know) What do we need to know? (list of need to know) Does Lemon Grass get more or less than its fair share of the customer pie? (this question requires a lot of data and analysis - all of it is available on Google) Is Lemon Grass doing 10% better than the average similar restaurant (or more)? (this question requires a lot of data and analysis - all of it is available on Google). n the metropolitan area of Cincinnati, Ohio there is a family-owned full serve restaurant called Lemon Grass. It is a Thai Restaurant in the Hyde Park neighborhood. It serves lunch and dinner 7 days a week for a total of 14 meals. They seat 34 people. Lets try to solve a typical critical thinking problem: The following are several questions that we may need in the process of solving our problem: A developer has offered a modest sum for the property (he wants to build a hotel) should we sell? How many customers visit the restaurant every year? There is a lot of restaurant competition in the area should we invest and expand rather than sell? (there is very little room to expand, but we could expand up) Are all the restaurants in the Hyde Park area doing well? Thus, is Lemon Grass doing better, worse or the same (on average) as the other restaurants in the area? We are in a great traffic area should we just take the money from the developer and move to another location? If we did that, where should we go? Goals: 1. Understand the principles of problem solving and critical thinking 2. Provide a suggestion to Lemon Grass with evidence
