A manufacturing plant plans to regulate its production of sulfuric and hydrochloric acid. The plant has three stations (A, B, and C) with three different processes, all producing aqueous solutions of the aforementioned acids as by-products. In order to regulate and properly store the acids, a dual mixer process was installed. It was noticed that the aqueous solution generated from station A contained unsafe concentrations of the acids (7% hydrochloric, 6% sulfuric), so it was fed to the first mixer to dilute the acids to a safer concentration. The dilution water used was contaminated with 9% inert. The diluted solution from the first mixer was transferred to the second mixer, where it is mixed with the aqueous solutions generated from stations B and C, the former containing 2% of each acid and the latter 3% each. The final product from the second mixer, flowing at a rate of 1660.5kg/min, contains 3.77% hydrochloric acid, 3.47% sulfuric acid, and 0.3% inert.
