A mechanical vapor compression cycle (MVC) is the heart of the HVAC system shown in the figure. A central water chiller at the basement cools the chilled water that gets pumped upward to three air handling units at each of the three floors as shown in the figure. A cooling tower on top of the roof is used to cool the condenser water of the water chiller. Assume the MVC cycle is using R410A refrigerant and the temperatures of the chilled water (shown by blue color) are 44F (6.66C) out and 54F in and condenser water (plotted in Red/orange) are 85F (29.44C) out and 95F in. 1) Assume reasonable pressures for the refrigerant in the condenser and the evaporator and calculate COP of cycle. For simplicity assume an ideal cycle with isentropic compression and saturated compressor inlet and condenser exit. 2) If The building has a total cooling load of 500,000 Btu/hr, please calculate the heat transfer rate in the cooling tower [Btu/hr]
