A modern leader must be multicultural because corporate success, profit, and growth depend increasingly on the management of a diverse work force. "My Tolerance for Cultural Differences," indicated that I am highly tolerant and flexible in terms of working with a broad spectrum of people. I believe I would be effective at leading diverse groups because I am patient, adaptable, flexible and willing to listen and learn. I have cultural sensitivity and I would be able to recognize certain nuances in customs that will help me build better relationships with people from different cultures. I'm willing to acquire knowledge about local customs and to learn to speak the native language. Possessing these positive attitudes and values will help me become a multicultural leader.
Throughout this course I've been able to assess my leadership skills by doing the exercises, quizzes, and participating in the weekly discussion posts. Each chapter provided me with beneficial tools that I will be able to use in my future endeavors as a leader. I've been able to identify some of my weak characteristics, as well as, my strengths. I've learned ways in which I can become more confident in my leadership abilities by being proactive, offering ideas, and making suggestions. I've also learned ways to become more extraverted including making an effort to socialize with team members, smiling and asking my team members how they are, and by participating in team exercises.
I've learned that my idea leadership style is participative. Participate leadership appeals to me most because everyone has the opportunity to give their ideas and opinions. I believe that the best ideas come from a collaborative effort. Being a participative leader would give me the opportunity to work hand and hand with my group members to achieve goals. Another important takeaway I received from this class is the importance of ethical and moral leadership. I've always prided myself on being honest, trustworthy, and having integrity. Having these core values will enable me to lead my subordinates in a righteous manner. As a leader, I will take the steps necessary to create an ethnical work culture. I will lead by example, influence, and empower my workers to achieve their goals both personally and professionally. I will make sure I have open communication and face to face interaction with my employees and recognize their individual accomplishments, so they know that their work has meaning.
