A more recent topic regarding firearms identification is microstamping firing pins with the purpose of identifying the specific gun to the fired cartridge case. In the last two/three years, New York sent a bill to the senate that "requires semi-automatic pistols manufactured or delivered to any licensed dealer in the state to be capable of microstamping ammunition"; however, this has not gone into law.

Please explain what microstamping is, the pros/cons of microstamping, and your position on this topic. Additionally, should this be a federal law? Why or why not?
