"A participative management style will lead to improvised customer needs, increased accountability and more innovative ideas and resolutions. The reason for that is that allows the staff to be valued, engaged and heard. The upside-down pyramid model for leadership is one that is very near and dear to me. I have worked for different companies throughout the year and in different manager roles with each of those company's and it has allowed me to work with different management styles from the company expectations. I currently work for a company that uses a participative management style. One of their key things is to always try and find a way to say yes to the client. How do we move forward with our client experience and allow it to be transparent and be lead by the people working through it every day. They listen to the team and give them a small framework to follow but allow them to figure out how it works for each hospital and team. We have some of the highest client satisfaction scores in the field due to this client first model. This transparency and small framework has also allowed the team to truly be involved in the growth of the company and has allowed the staff to take accountability for the hospital are preforming and their own actions in how this affects things. The "command and control "structure is just small groups of people's decisions that force everyone else to fall in line and no longer allow them to act on their own. They act as roadblocks along the pathway to making the right decisions vs acting as check in points along that path.
The Untied Gain Growers and Agricore United started the enterprise risk management process for the world. The Canadian company was one of the first companies to do it right. The reason they were able to do this radial idea at the time was because they used a participative management style with their team. They allowed their team to come up with innovative ideas and it paid of when they able to attract long term investors due to their solid financial base for their future. Due to the financial success of UGG they acquired their competitor and formed the Agricore United in 2007. The new AU has even more people who now wish to acquire them due to their proven leadership and track record."
