Directions for the ASSIGNMENT

This requirement has two parts: a poster and a report.

1. The Poster:

a poster containing eight (8) symbolic representations - one for each of the eight learning theories. Each of the eight symbols will be a pictorial explanation of each theory. Original artwork, pictures, or clip art may be used to create symbols. The poster will contain:

The title "Learning Theories" across the top,

Eight symbols - each with a number beside it (but no text), and

The name of the student and the class on the back of the poster.

2. The Report:

a typed and printed report containing a list of the eight learning theories. For each of the eight (8) learning theories, the student will include the following in the report:

A detailed description of each learning theory demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the theory as it relates to early childhood education. The name(s) of the primary theorist(s), as well as any terms, stages, and other information associated with the theory should be included. Note: Some theories have more than one theorist to cover in the report (ex. psychodynamic theory).

A description of how each learning theory relates to early childhood education. (In other words, how is it used in or why is it important to early childhood education today?)

A brief description explaining why the symbol on the poster was chosen for that theory. This will again demonstrate an understanding of the theory.
