A project management plan provides the overall guidance for the execution of a project. Read the following scenario and think about the reasons for developing a project management plan.
You are preparing for a meeting with the company leadership in which you will present your project charter and the process for developing the project management plan. One of the engineers assigned to the project stopped by to let you know that the engineering manager will be at your meeting and he believes the development of a project management plan is a waste of people's time and resources. The engineering manager believes everyone on the project knows his or her job and can produce the project deliverables without wasting time on a project management plan.
As you prepare for the meeting, you develop your notes for discussing the project management plan. You would like the engineering manager to support you on the project. Consider what you might include in your presentation to the leadership team.
1. Explain your reasons for requiring the development of a project management plan and its importance to successfully completing the project.
2. Explain the components of the project management plan you will emphasize to win over the engineering manager.
3. Justify why these components are significant for a coherent and effective plan.
