A question of efficiency is raised about a motor/reducer drive system. The 500 Hp DC motor is operating at rated voltage, current, and speed as measured with a tachometer, voltmeter, and ammeter. Neither component is excessively hot. A. If the power factor is very low, the real power is low. Correct the problem by correcting the power factor. B. The motor condition is suspect because the machine will not run at rating and the gearbox is not getting hot. C. The motor is developing full horsepower, so the reducer must be running at low efficiency. D. Since nothing is overheating, all the work must be going into the workpiece. There is no problem with the motor/reducer drive system.
