A refrigerator operates on the ideal vapor-compression cycle (Perkins cycle) with refrigerant R134a as the operating fluid. The cycle operates between the pressures of 200 kPa and 500 kPa. The inlet stream to the compressor is assumed to be saturated vapor and the outlet stream from the condenser is assumed to be saturated liquid at given pressures. Use data from Tables A-11, A-12, and A-13. Sketch and label a process diagram and a T s diagram for this plant. Write down relevant values on at least one diagram. Assuming isentropic operation of the compressor, compute the required compressor work per kilogram of refrigerant and the quality of the liquid-vapor mixture x at the outlet of the isenthalpic expansion valve. Compute the mass flowrate of the refrigerant if the required rate of heat to be absorbed on the cold side is QC = 500 kW. Compute the Coefficient of Performance R,ideal.
