A researcher at the University of Dallas hypothesized that engaging in new and challenging cognitive activities would improve outcomes on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). which is a test of cognitive functioning. One hunderod and two (102} older adults (ages 65 to 75) were selected at random and divided, at random, into a treatment group and a control group; there were 51 individuals In each group. The treatment group participated in a computer programming course for 3 hours a day for four weeks. The control group spent 3 hours a day watching television in the common room of a local seniors' home. At the end of the four-week period, all 102 individuals were administered the MoCA.
