A researcher desires to test the effect of meal type on test performance. Specifically, the researcher hypothesizes that students eating a high protein meal will have higher test performance than students consuming a high carbohydrate meal. Forty students from the researcher's Introduction to Psychology course were randomly selected from the 250 students in the course for participation in the study (students performing below the C level were excluded from participation). Students were randomly assigned to either the high protein group (a fish or roast beef entree and a salad) or the high carbohydrate group (a pasta entree and a salad). Each was then given a standardized test over intro psych material one hour after meal consumption (% correct is recorded). The data are presented below.

- What is the null hypothesis in this study?
- What is the alternate hypothesis?
- What probability should you use and why?
- What are the degrees of freedom?
- What is your computed answertvalue?
- Based on your t value, probability level, degrees of freedom, and critical value, is there a significant difference between the two groups?
- Interpret your answer--are there differences between the groups? If so, which group performed better?
- If you have made an error, would it be a Type I or a Type II error? Explain.
