A researcher is interested in the effects of alcohol on motor performance. He uses 120 male and 120 female subjects who are assigned to one of three treatment conditions: those that are not given a drink, those who are given the equivalent of one shot of whiskey, and those who are given the equivalent of 2 shots of whiskey. The level of alcohol is presented to the subjects in a strongly flavored drink so that it is not noticeable. Each subject is told either that there is a lot of alcohol in the drink and it will have a strong effect on performance or that there is a small amount of alcohol in the drink and it will have relatively no effect on performance.
