A researcher is interested in the effects of how thinking of a memory and mood one is put into affects one's memory abilities. The first independent variable is to think of a positive memory (i.e., good/happy) or negative memory (i.e., bad/sad). The second independent variable is listening to two songs that are shown to evoke a positive/happy mood or two songs that are shown to evoke a negative/sad mood. The dependent variable is number of words out of 25 participants (n = 15) recalled. This is a 2x2 repeated measures design. Each participant completed each of the four conditions are a combination of the levels of memory and mood: positive memory positive mood; positive memory negative mood; negative memory negative mood; negative memory positive mood. After each participant recalled the positive or negative memory, they were given a list of 25 words (four different word lists were used, one per condition). The researcher instructed the participants to study the list of words while the music was played, either positive or negative music. After the music played, the participants were asked to write down the words they remembered from the list they studied. The number of words remembered by each participant was recorded
