A resident comes to you and indicates that her daughter is stealing her money and taking her pension cheques. The resident states she has no control of her money. The resident's daughter gives her only a small amount of money to spend at a time. In a conversation with the Director of Wellness, she informed you that one of the PSW's observed the daughter entering the resident's room on several occasions and leaving with a bag of items. The daughter usually visited during meal time when the resident was in the dining room. As the "New" General Manager, you have started to consider how to investigate. Interestingly, no concerns have been brought forward regarding lack of payment for her monthly rent, and you have not received a nonsufficient funds (NSF) note from the bank regarding her monthly payment. When speaking to the daughter, she indicates to you that her mother had experienced some financial abuse in the past from other family members, plus the resident was withdrawing money from the account. There would not be enough to cover the rent, so the daughter had to keep an eye on the account to ensure there was enough money was in the account. The daughter also indicated she had her mother's pension cheque redirect to her to ensure it was deposited. The resident is insisting that the police should be called.

1. Provide an action plan of how you will address this allegation. 2. What triggers are noted 3. Based upon the facts, do you feel it is or is not financial abuse? Explain why or why not. 4. Are there any other considerations/investigation that should be considered as part of your investigation?
