a Second Semester Reading list Charles Dunlop is a sessional lecturer (term instructor) at the University of Alabaster (UA). UA is known as a technologically advanced institution that focuses on providing a learner-centred learning environment. Course delivery often comprises presenting material outside of class time via videos, an online learning management system, PowerPoint presentations, and handouts. This way the instructor can fully utilize class time for hands on activities to solidify concepts. Instructors are expected to be accessible to students. They should have an open-door policy and be responsive to student questions. The professors are employees of UA and are provided with laptops. The classrooms are equipped with projectors, televisions, and interactive whiteboards, which are overseen by the Facilities Department. At the end of every term, students are invited to complete an instructor evaluation, administered by the Dean's office. The instructor is requested to leave the room while the evaluation is administered, to avoid influencing the results. The results from the evaluations influence hiring decisions for term (non-permanent) instructors and are foundational to performance assessments. Charles just received his performance assessment and is devastated by it. The assessment contains only five line items, each of which was pulled from the instructor evaluation. The following is a copy of his assessment report. The rankings range from 0 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree) Question/Prompt Ranking Student Comments 1. Based on an average of the rankings, Charles' score is 2.72. Charles knows that UA considers scores of 4 or higher desirable. He is very frustrated by the results because the university only retains instructors with an overall score of 3.00 or higher.
