A sports psychologist believes that amount of practice is related to performance. She measures the hours of basketball free-throw practice time of several players, and then free-throw performance in a game. The data are as follows:

Practice Time # of shots made

0 1

1 1

2 1

2 2

3 3

4 3

4 4

4 2

5 3

Use SPSS to compute the regression equation for the above data. Include your output file, as well as your answers to the questions below. After you input the data choose Regression from the menu, and then Linear. Remember that the independent variable is the predictor variable (practice), and the dependent variable is the criterion variable (shots made).

When using SPSS this time you will enter the data in separate columns as they appear above. Put the X-variable in the VAR1 column and put the Y-variable in the VAR2 column. We do it this way because we have an X and Y value for each participant in our data.

You MUST submit a Word document where you write the equation for the line that predicts number of shots made from amount of practice time and answer the following questions!!!

  1. Look at the unstandardized coefficient section at the very bottom of your output. The "constant" listed there under B is the y-intercept. The slope is under B next to your first variable (VAR01). Input these two numbers into the generic equation (y = bx + a) to write the equation of the line.
  2. Predict the number of shots made if someone had 3 hours of practice

How much we expect our answer in #2 to be in error (look for the standard error of the estimate in the "Model Summary" section of your outpu
