A steam boiler supplies steam at the rate of 540 kg/h with a dryness fraction of 096 and a pressure of 26 bar. The steam is fed to a pressure-reducing valve which throttles the steam to 16 bar. At this pressure it is used in a manufacturing process which consumes 200 kW. The steam leaves the process at 16 bar and is throttled to 7 bar. It then passes through a heater at a constant pressure and the steam condenses to water at 35 degrees below the saturation temperature. (The mass flow is constant through the system).
Find:
(a) the condition of the steam after it is throttled to 16 bar (b) the condition of the steam after it is throttled to 7 bar (c) the power output from the heater (d) the gas consumption if the temperature of the water entering the steam boiler is 80C and the boiler is 65% efficient.
Calorific value of the gas is 38 MJ/m3.
